Why a letter

A small analogue moment.

Every month the qi of a home shifts — certain corners wake up, others ask to be left alone. The letter tells you what moved, and what to do about it.

Each month I write one fengshui letter: where the month's energy has settled, which sector of your home to activate and which to quiet, and one small ritual to do with your own hands. It is the same tradition I read from in person — the flying stars, the five elements, the almanac — delivered as something you can hold, pin above your desk, and act on. Each letter is set like a Tang-dynasty travel document (通关文牒) and stamped by hand in vermilion — a different seal every month.

Letters are written, stamped, and posted from the Bay Area. Every envelope carries a hand-drawn talisman — a 符, the charm the practice is named for — different each time, drawn for the week it is posted.

Why subscribers stay

The almanac card is the piece you'll use every week.

宜/忌 — the almanac's auspicious days, pinned up where you'll see them.

Every letter comes with a card marking the month's good days and the ones to leave alone. Everything else in the envelope gets read once; this is the piece that stays pinned up and gets checked all month long.

How it works

From my desk to your door.

You subscribe

For the monthly letter, that's all — just your mailing address. For a written report, I'll ask for your birth date (and time and place, if you know them) after you order.

I write

The monthly letter is written fresh each month from the almanac and the flying stars. Written reports are read and written one at a time — please allow up to two weeks.

It arrives

Stamped and posted, with that week’s hand-drawn talisman in the envelope. Monthly letters land in the first half of the month, in time to act on it.

What's inside

Four pieces, under one stamp.

A handwritten letter, an almanac card, one keepsake made for that month alone, and a seal pressed by hand — everything folds flat and mails for the cost of a single stamp.

Inside every letter: the letter and ritual sheet, the Good-Days almanac card, this month's seal, and a rotating keepsake — this month the hand-drawn talisman, other months a Nüshu character card, bookmark, or reference card — hand-addressed and posted worldwide, $18.88 a month, annual and gift options available
The rotating keepsake

A published twelve-month calendar.

Every envelope carries a handwritten reading of the month, an almanac card of auspicious dates, and one keepsake made for that month alone — a hand-drawn talisman at each turn of the season, and between them Nüshu characters, bookmarks, and reference cards. Each carries its month's solar terms on the back. Twelve of them complete the year.

Behind the scenes

From my desk.

In every envelope

The talisman.

Fu Letters talisman — fine-line vermilion 符 on paper

符 — the charm the practice is named for.

Every mailing carries a different talisman, drawn by hand in the Taoist tradition for the week it goes out — protection one time, clearing or invitation the next. No two are alike. Keep it in your wallet, tuck it above the door, or pass it on to someone who needs it. At Lunar New Year, subscribers receive a talisman drawn for the year ahead.

Stamped, like a passport

Twelve seals make a year.

The hand-carved seal, pressed in vermilion onto each month's letter

In the Tang dynasty, travelers carried stamped documents — 通关文牒 — each vermilion seal marking a checkpoint passed. Your letters work the same way.

Every monthly letter arrives stamped with that month's seal, pressed by hand in red from a traditional carved chop. Keep your letters together and the year assembles itself into a record — twelve seals, twelve months of your home's weather. Subscribers who complete a full year receive a thirteenth seal on their new-year letter, marking the year passed.
